Ruthie goes to the schools annual show at the Golders Green Hippodrome. The stage is always full of small, and not so small, girls who have been whipped into shape by the older ones. The show goes on forever....... The seats are so excruciatingly uncomfortable, with no leg room, and the heat so high that she feels as if she is travelling steerage class from Bangkok As one girl soars into a rendition of 'Memories', so off key that it inflicts pain, Ruthie emits a involuntary howl of distress then hopes that the woman 2 seats in front isn't the proud mother........
