The Island has a nine hole golf course which was originally laid out during the naval invasion of 1886, at Vaul. Green Fees and club hire are available from the Hotel. Day and hourly pony treks are run from the riding school at Caolis, a delightful way to explore the Island. Tel: 01879 220 371 Clay Pigeon Shooting: The club operates every second Sunday throughout the spring and summer months. More information from Mrs. J Gray. Tel :01879 220 360 Cycling: Bikes are available from the Hotel. Walking: The general flatness of the Island makes it a walkers heaven. Several suggested walks are available from Reception. Tel :01879 220 344 The Island is steeped in history and there are many interesting places to visit e.g. Standing Stones, Brochs, The Ringing Stone, The Signal Tower museum, The Sandaig Museum, St. Patrick's Chapel, Ceann'a Mhara, The Chapels at Kirkapol. Useful books about the Island are 'The Land Below The Waves' by Donneil Kennedy, 'Discover the Isle of Tiree' by Meena J.A. Knapman, and The Hebrides at War by Mike Hughes Swimming Lessons given by an ex-scottish international swimmer are available at the Tiree Lodge in the small pool they have to the rear of the hotel. Lessons are given on an individual basis to any age. Beach Club run by T.A.P's operates during the summer months on Gott Bay. |
